TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Confederation of Indonesian Workers Unions (KSPI) leader Said Iqbal announced that the May Day 2019 rally on May 1st will mainly demand the government to end the practice of cheap labor and outsourcing workers.
“Revoke the government regulation (PP) No. 78/2015. Increase components in the decent living needs (KHL) to 84 items,” he said in a written statement on Wednesday, April 24.
Other than the two elements above, Iqbal called for the government to guarantee workers’ healthcare and pension, as well as calling for the country’s electricity tariff and prices of staple foods to be greatly reduced.
Among other demands, he claimed the peaceful rally in Jakarta will involve at least 500,000 workers from a number of workers’ unions across Indonesia. KSPI said it will mobilize 50,000 people from Jakarta alone to rally in front of the State Palace.
The infamous nation-wide rallies will also be held simultaneously in major Indonesian cities such as Bandung, Lampung, Banjarmasin, Semarang, Surabaya, Medan, Batam, Makassar, and many more.
